Dasilyrion Wheeleri: Desert Spoon, Sotol

These plants are growing all over the Texas Canyon Rest area (photographed December 2002). This is the place where Cochise and Geronimo had their hideaway for so many years. Four miles to the South east, the Apache peace treaty was signed with Cochise.

Thanks to Chris Weaver in the physical Science Laboratory - New Mexico State University - for correctly identifying this plant (Incorrectly identified as Agave Stricta) "Dasilyrion Wheeleri, or Desert Spoon, also called Sotol by the people in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. The leaves of this desert plant are made into an alcoholic Beverage also called Sotol - hailed as the regional Mezcal.
